Iolo could have possibly have become the Father of Welsh Republicanism but unfortunatly this was not to be, many think that what he was attempting to establish on Primrose Hill was a primitave Pagan Parliament of Republican free thinkers. There was perhaps an hope that this could have become the 'Invisible Government' of a Welsh Republic but this dream was to be as thwarted as the later dream of a few Welsh Chartists and their idea of a Southern Welsh 'Silurian Republic'.

Unfortunatly, the dreams of our 18th century Welsh ''Wild Men' as of today came to nought and somewhere along the line Cambrianism took over at that historic Carmarthen Ivy Bush Eisteddfod. It was in time compfortable and of course safe 19th century 'West British' Victorian Welsh Middle Class aka 'Crachach' - Cymru Fydd Liberal Cultural Nationalism that became order of the day, and still is not any form of Welsh Republicanism. But still Iolo was 'the man' and maybe well considered as the Father of a radical Cultural Nationalism, tis a pity it could not have remained even that, but still there may be hope in 2011 with the Carlo Carnival of Cymric Counter Cultural Revolution in Caernarfon on 1 July 2011?

Meanwhile, if in London on a Midsummers day, do go and have a Welsh Republican picnic on Primrose hill, I am amazed that Wales has been so slow in getting a Gwyl Iolo off the ground, why not a Iolo Cultural Festival on or about date of his birth 10 March 1747 and Iolo Political Festival on or about date of his death 18 December 1826. C'mon Cymru get to it, see Cadw Initiative area and note plenty of grants about to fund, so get cracking! See splendid fotos below, by way they are (c) G.Gruffydd and note following they plenty of links for info on Iolo. Do note and remind me lets go and lay wreaths annually on his grave in December and have a pint ot two, to toast this great man. Anyone up for that, lets us know ok!
